Floodlight robbery! - February 10, 2001
St Patrick's Athletic 2 UCD 1
Shameless St. Pat's not only garnered three points to move into second place in the Eircom premier table, they also dealt UCD a crippling psychological blow ahead of Monday's League Cup final second leg.
UCD, 3-1 down from the first leg, desperately need league points, but they also wanted to give a good account of themselves to show that the League Cup is sill there to be won.
It looked like they would achieve both aims after Clive Delaney put them 1-0 up on the stroke of half time. Seamus Kelly fumbled Eoin Bennis' corner and Delaney hooked the loose ball home from close range.
It was not surprising that centre back Delaney should be the one to score. The Students had enough possession to wrap it up, but their lack of genuine goal threat cost them dearly again - it allowed Saints manager Pat Dolan to substitute a forward for a back when he sent on Michael Holt for Trevor Croly with 20 minutes left.
And the Saints made them pay when Robbie Griffin played in Holt for the equaliser with a minute left on the clock.
There was still time for barefaced Pat's to steal it - UCD 'keeper Barry Ryan making a rare blunder to present Liam Kelly with an easy chance.
