Saints go through - November 29, 2000

St. Patrick's Athletic 2 Finn Harps 1

St. Patrick's Athletic made sure of an all-Dublin League Cup final when they survived a scare to beat Finn Harps at the Stadium of Light last night.

The home side could have been a goal down in the opening minutes but Harps top scorer Alex Nesovic fluffed a penalty, shooting weakly at Seamus Kelly.

Pats responded by scoring two cloned goals in the minutes before half time. Both came from set pieces - first Colm Foley and then Ger McCarthy arriving late in the six-yard box to power headers past Gareth Downey.

Harps youngster Kevin McHugh gave the Donegal side hope with a superbly struck goal in the second half, but the Saints just about held on.
