Quinn to see specialist today - March 7, 2001
Republic of Ireland striker Niall Quinn will consult a specialist today in an effort to rid himself of the back problem that has plagued him for much of the season.
The big man's latest breakdown - against Aston Villa on Monday night - threatens his involvement in Ireland's World Cup games this month and has left him bitterly disappointed and worried.
"I had nine days rest and I felt great going into the game, but now it is worse than it has ever been and I'm back to square one," said the 82-cap striker.
"Naturally it's worrying - but until I talk to the surgeon, I can't make any predictions."
The problem, which first emerged before Christmas, has seen Quinn being replaced early in seven of his last 13 matches. He lasted just over half an hour of the game against Villa before quitting in agony.
