Bright future for Irish at Notts County - October 24, 2000 Notts County's young Irish contingent got a serious boost over the last month with both of them signing new contracts at the club. Goalkeeper Saul Deeney was the first to commit to the club and he was followed by striker Paul Heffernan last week. The 18-year-old striker signed a new three-year deal and promptly made the first-team squad for the first time this season. After playing only 20 minutes of first-team football last season, Heffernan got his chance as an 86th-minute substitute against Peterborough at the weekend and should become a more prominent member of the squad over the next year. He was a prolific scorer for the Notts County youth team and everybody at Meadow Lane feels he has a huge future in the game. |
