Nationwide Irish on the mark - February 26, 2001

Former Republic of Ireland international midfielder John Sheridan was among the Irishmen on target in the Nationwide League at the weekend.

Sheridan struck from the penalty spot for Oldham's opener in a 2-1 division two victory over Sean O'Driscoll's Bournemouth, for whom Gareth O'Connor was an unused substitute.

Kieron Durkan was another Irishman on the mark from the penalty spot. His kick gave third-division Macclesfield a third-minute lead at Darlington, but they surrendered that lead to yet another penalty and had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Former u21 international Barry Conlon - on loan for the season from York - notched his fourth of the season and Colchester's fourth of the day in a 4-0 win over Bristol City.

John Sheridan's brother Darren was one of a number of Irish players with less cause to celebrate: he was booked as his side, Wigan, went down 1-0 to Northampton.

Former international Brian Carey was also booked as his side, Wrexham, recorded a 3-2 win at Walsall; underage international Dave McMahon - on loan from Newcastle to Darlington - picked up a yellow; and so did young Daire Doyle as his side, Kidderminster, went down 4-2 at home to Cardiff.
