Irwin turns Ireland on to Red telly - January 24, 2001

Denis Irwin flew into Dublin yesterday to throw the switch for MUTV, Manchester United's own daily television channel.

From now on the six-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week channel will be beamed into Irish homes by broadcasters Sky Digital and ntl.

A fiver a month will allow Man U fans here to tune in to a daily diet of star interviews, news and magazine programmes and broadcasts of reserve and youth team games and classic games from the past.

The club has future plans to show live Premiership games on MUTV and will definitely screen United's pre-season tour of the Far East this summer.

"Ireland has one of the largest Manchester United fan bases in the world per head of population and now supporters will be able to enjoy exclusive player and manager interviews, pre and post match analysis and more," the Irish international full back said.

"MUTV is a great communication bridge for the fans, a way of getting almost inside the club from hundreds or even thousands of miles away."
