Dundalk goalkeeper joins league newcomers - July 14, 2000 Dundalk goalkeeper Brendan Murphy is going to try his luck in England for the second time in his career. The 24-year-old Wexford-born shot stopper has signed a two-year deal with League newcomers Kidderminster. Murphy was in England as a teenager. He joined Bradford as a schoolboy and won a dream move to the Premiership with Wimbledon. He was close to breaking into the first team under Joe Kinnear, during which time he was capped at u21 and 'B' international level by Ireland. But after a couple of years of sitting on the bench he decided to return to Ireland where he joined Dundalk. He got plenty of experience with the Eircom League Division One side, which alerted Kidderminster manager Jan Molby to his prowess. Molby rates Murphy very highly. He said: "Brendan is a very good goalkeeper. I feel happier having three on board and Brendan is the final piece as far as goalkeepers go." |
