Rowlands Bristol bound? - February 27, 2001

Bristol City manager Danny Wilson is reportedly preparing a fresh bid for Brentford's Irish u21 international midfielder Martin Rowlands.

Wilson, who attempted to buy Rowlands earlier in the season, has asked his board of directors for financial backing to make a fresh bid for the 22-year-old.

Brentford chairman Ron Noades needs to trim the wage bill and Wilson smells blood.

Anxious to sign a quality midfielder, the former Northern Ireland international has made enquiries about a number of players - but Rowlands is believed to be his preferred choice.

"I've been making enquiries for some time, but for one reason or another nothing has come of them," Wilson said. "I don't want to go into details and I'll be doing my best to clinch a signing if possible."
