Reddy scores on Swindon debut - January 26, 2001

Irish underage international Michael Reddy - currently surplus to requirements at Premiership Sunderland - agreed a loan deal with second-division Swindon Town during the week and marked his Nationwide debut with a goal. Reddy grabbed the opener as Swindon beat Bury 3-0 at the County Ground.

The Kilkennyman was one of a clatter of Irish players who hit the target in the Nationwide over the weekend - among them Reddy's Swindon team-mate Keith O'Halloran, who notched the second in the same match, from the penalty spot, before picking up a yellow card and then getting subbed off.

There were two Irish scorers in the division two match between Rotherham and Port Vale, but this time they were on opposite sides. Vale's Michael Cummins equalised Mark Robins' early strike, only for fellow countryman Alan Lee to restore Rotherham's lead as the Millers wen on to win 3-2.

Defender Joe Dunne grabbed a rare goal for Colchester - only the eighth of a 260-match career - and it was enough to give his side a 1-0 win over Oxford. Wayne O'Sullivan's 33rd-minute strike for Plymouth against Halifax also proved to be the only goal of the game.

Wigan's Darren Sheridan grabbed the headlines for the wrong reasons, though. He was sent off early in the second half as his side crashed 2-0 to Stoke at the Britannia.
