Irish goal-getters on target again - February 19, 2001
On-form Irish goal-scorers Michael Reddy, James O'Connor and Liam George were all on target again at the weekend. Reddy, on-loan from Sunderland, lifted struggling Swindon to sixth from bottom in division two with his third goal in four starts.
Manager Andy King has predicted that Reddy's goals would save Swindon and he looks to have called it correctly. On Saturday, the Kilkennyman delivered the only goal of the game to beat Cambridge away from home.
The Irish double act at Luton - new manager Joe Kinnear and rejuvenated underage international Liam George - is lifting the Hatters out of the danger zone too. Luton looked doomed a fortnight ago, but three successive wins have put them just a point behind fifth-from-bottom Port Vale and closing fast.
George, who has rediscovered his shooting boots since Kinnear's arrival, has scored twice in those three wins, including the important clinching goal in Saturday's 5-3 thriller against Swansea.
Midfielder James O'Connor scored his second in consecutive games to earn Stoke a point in the local derby against Port Valle and keep the Potters' promotion hopes alive. It was the u21 international's ninth of the season from midfield.
