Ten-man Monaghan hold on - December 22, 2000
Monaghan United 0 Waterford United 0
Monaghan United held on for a share of the spoils in this first-division promotion six-pointer with a backs-to-the-wall performance at Gortakeegan last night.
The home side were the better team in the first half, with Ken Lundy going close after just four minutes. But, five minutes into the second, John Carroll got his marching orders for a second yellow.
After that it was real Alamo stuff for Monaghan, with youngster Nicky McCarville and veteran Mick Scully holding things together at the back.
Monaghan rode their luck too - particularly when Waterford's Aaron Moroney volleyed against the woodwork midway through the second half.
