Bohs finally get their man - July 14, 2000

All speculation can now end on whether Trevor Molloy is going to join Bohemians or not. The former Irish u21 international put pen to paper at Dalymount Park this afternoon to become the most expensive player in National League history.

The 23-year-old striker was at the Dublin club for most of today. Negotiations lasted for hours but Bohemians manager Roddy Collins finally got his man. But the deal will cost.

Bohs smashed the record transfer payment to bring Molloy from St. Patrick's Athletic. It cost Collins around £30,000 plus striker Jamie Harris for Trevor's signature.

Including the value of Harris, for whom Galway United offered £10,000, the Molloy deal could top £40,000. Roddy Collins is philosophical about the cost as he believes in time Trevor could turn out to be a bargain.

Collins said: "Trevor is still only learning his trade. He is only 23 and there is no doubt that he can only get better."

The signing shows how ambitious the Dalymount Park club are. They finished runners-up in the FAI Cup last season and chased Shelbourne all the way in the League but ran out of steam on the run-in.

They plan on redressing this and with the huge outlay of their funds they will be under pressure to do so.

Collins has not finished in the transfer market yet. He reckons that he needs to add at least another two players before the start of the season to be confident of having cover in every position.
