McKeever goes a-Roving - March 15, 2001
Mark McKeever is set to relaunch his career at Bristol Rovers. The former underage international has completed a £50,000 move from Sheffield Wednesday.
McKeever - born in Derry but declared for the Republic - signed a two-year contract with a one-year option and will be pitched straight into Rovers' relegation battle against high-flying Rotherham.
The Pirates have paid £25,000 on the nail for the 22-year-old winger, with another £25,000 due after an agreed number of appearances.
McKeever is already something of a hero at the Memorial Stadium after completing two loan stints there, as well as one at Reading.
Rovers thought they had landed McKeever earlier in the season - but then Wednesday boss Paul Jewell, having agreed a deal, changed his mind after Wednesday fans objected to the Irishman's cut-price departure.
At one time McKeever was highly thought of at Hillborough. But a serious leg injury kept him out of the game for almost a year and he never succeeded in getting back in favour.
McKeever said: "I'm so happy my future is settled and, with games in hand on the clubs around us, we are in a strong position to get out of trouble."
