Kinsella fit to face Danes - January 10, 2000
Midfield dynamo Mark Kinsella will be fit to face Denmark next month, despite his recent knee operation.
The Charlton skipper had exploratory surgery on a knee injury he picked up over the Christmas period - and the news is better than expected.
Confirming his availability for Ireland's February friendly against the Danes, Kinsella said: "The problem is not as bad as first feared. I'm definitely travelling over."
Definitely joining Kinsella in the Irish squad will be Bradford centre back Andy O'Brien and Tottenham's latest hero, Gary Doherty. Manager Mick McCarthy has already stated he will take a look at the duo in what is his last chance to experiment before the serious business of World Cup qualification resumes.
U21 international O'Brien was on the verge of a senior call-up when he sustained a serious shoulder injury early in the season. Now he is back to full fitness and re-etablished in the Bantams' Premiership side.
Doherty, signed by Spurs as a striker from Luton, has looked impressive in his recent run in the back three. His aerial threat at set-pieces has added a new dimension to Tottenham's game and he has scored in each of his last two starts.
