Holland to equal club record - January 30, 2001

Indestructible Irishman Matt Holland is set to mark yet another milestone this Wednesday when he leads Ipswich out against Birmingham in the Worthington Cup semi-final second leg.

Senior international Holland just never gets injured - and Wednesday's game will be his 200th on the trot since he joined Ipswich from Bournemouth in 1997.

That will equal the club record set by goalkeeper Richard Wright earlier this season - and unless the unthinkable happens, Matt will go one better against Leeds on Saturday.

Wright set the record in November, but broke his hand in match No. 200 and lost his place to another Irishman, Keith Branagan, for the following two games.

"After the Wembley play-off final last season, this is the biggest game I have ever had," Holland said. "It makes my 200th game even more special and there can be no better way to celebrate the landmark than to get through to a Cup final."
