Markey, Sheridan to stay put - January 26, 2001

Bohemians' Brendan Markey and Shelbourne's Tony Sheridan look set to stay with their respective clubs at least to the end of the season.

Markey was transfer listed before Christmas but the response was lukewarm. Kilkenny City took a look but didn't bite, while cash-strapped Finn Harps wanted a loan deal to the end of the season - a proposal not acceptable to Bohemians, who wanted a cash return.

Sheridan was picked up by Shels after being released by Cardiff City in November. The former Shels hero was signed by then Cardiff boss Bobby Gould but left without playing a game after Alan Cork took over.

Shels put him on a short-term deal and he has since been used sparingly by manager Dermot Keely - four appearances, all as sub, and usually in the last ten minutes.

But the continued absence of Stephen Geoghegan means that Keely will need cover for Richie Foran and Dessie Baker until at least the middle of March - and that looks like extending Sheridan's stay at Tolka.
