Longford Town 2 UCD 0
Longford Town arrested their new-year slump with a comfortable win over UCD at Flancare Park - but for the Students there was no relief from their nightmare.
Already virtually certain to face a relegation play-off at the end of the season, UCD lost ground to Finn Harps with this result and the possibility of automatic relegation cannot be ruled out.
UCD's Derek Swan had the first chance of the game, but saw his shot well saved by Stephen O'Brien in the Longford goal.
Longford took the lead just after the half-hour mark when Stuart Byrne blasted a Stephen Gavin cross into the roof of the net.
Patrick Jennings - son of the legendary Pat - made his debut for UCD, coming on at half time for the injured Barry Ryan. And he was soon making himself useful, saving twice from Niall Byrne.
Jennings kept his goal intact until five minutes from the end, when Robbie Farrell forced home a corner by substitute Stuart Holt.
