Mountfield fury over referee - December 3, 2000
Longford Town 2 Cork City 1
Cork City boss Derek Mountfield claims there isn't a decent referee in the entire Eircom League - and if this display was the yardstick, he could be right!
The former Everton and Wolves defender was reacting to defeat by newboys Longford - and to the sending off, for a second yellow, of his defender Stephen Napier.
Napier was booked in first-half injury time for handling in the box - but Stephen Kelly's spot kick was saved by Michael Devine in the Cork goal.
That was about the only chance of a dull first half - but within minutes of the restart Ollie Cahill fired Cork ahead with a terrific strike.
But Longford didn't get this high in the table by giving in easily and they were on level terms nine minutes later - Stephen Kelly making up for his penalty miss by prodding home Keith O'Connor's flick from a Stephen Gavin corner.
Longford's second-half display deserved a winner and it duly arrived on 83 minutes when substitute Stuart Holt curled a free kick past Devine.
