Longford, Cork face two matches in 48 hours - January 9, 2001

Longford Town and Cork City must play two games each within 48 hours this weekend - with Longford due to play three game in five days!

The two meet in their FAI Cup second-round replay on Sunday afternoon, less than 48 hours after playing Eircom premier matches. Cork travel to Galway United while Longford travel to Bray, both on Friday night.

Longford sought a postponement of the league match but were turned down - and now the FAI is insisting that both league games go ahead on the same time.

"Neither team will have any advantage provided both play their league matches on Friday night," said FAI President, Pat Quigley.

Longford are also due to play Kilkenny City in the Leinster Senior Cup tonight - but it now looks certain that manager Stephen Kenny will field a scratch team, reserving his top players for the hectic weekend schedule.
