Longford sign Prunty - January 5, 2001

Eircom Premier high-flyers Longford Town have swooped to sign Irish youngster Sean Prunty.

The 20-year-old wide player - a native of Co. Longford - was released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season.

He then spent two months on trial at Wigan, where he didn't play a competitive game and failed to secure a contract offer.

Longford manager Stephen Kenny has been trying to strengthen his squad in recent months on fairly limited resources. He indicated a few weeks ago that he was looking at a number of cross-channel players.

The club recently secured a major sponsorship deal for the naming rights of their Strokestown Road pitch with logistics company Flancare - but that money has been earmarked for necessary ground developments.
