George injured as Kinnear suffers first defeat - February 21, 2001
Irish u21 striker Liam George suffered an injury last night and is now doubtful for Luton Town's division two clash with Swindon this Saturday.
If George does not recover in time for that match, he is almost certain to be pulled out of the Irish u21 squad for the friendly against Denmark at Dalymount Park the following Tuesday.
The Irishman suffered a gashed calf after five minutes of last night's 3-1 defeat at Walsall and was substituted at half time. He later required five stitches in the wound.
The injury brought an end to George's scoring mini-streak: he had found the target in his two previous games for Luton.
"George has got five stitches in his calf, so it was a case of not risking it," said manager Joe Kinnear, who was furious after last night's defeat - the first since he took over as manager a fortnight ago.
"He got it after five minutes and his calf started to stiffen up, so maybe I should have taken him off earlier."
Kinnear, who is trying to steer Luton away from the relegation zone, was also hit by injuries last night to Lee Mansell and Stuart Douglas.
