Kilbane back in Sunderland frame - February 22, 2001
Axed winger Kevin Kilbane could secure a quick return to the Sunderland first team after starring for the reserves on Monday night. Manager Peter Reid yesterday praised the Irishman's performance - and tipped him to force his way back into the first team.
The Republic of Ireland international skippered the second string against Newcastle and drew high praise from the manager.
"He has been a bit low recently but I'm hoping that by captaining a winning side he will be feeling more positive," Reid said. "He played very well for the reserves and hopefully that will have been good for his confidence.
"He is a very good player and is still very much in my plans and I expect him to play a big part in our remaining games this season."
Kilbane said: "I know I haven't been at my best recently, but I was happy with the way I played for the reserves and hopefully I will soon get another chance in the first team."
