Kinnear says no to Wednesday - June 1, 2000 Former Wimbledon manager Joe Kinnear has decided against taking the manager's job at Sheffield Wednesday. Kinnear told the Wednesday board yesterday that he would not be taking up the post after the club set him a "short deadline" to make up his mind. Wednesday put pressure on Kinnear to make a decision because they
thought he was stalling to see if something better would come up. It
seems they were right. Kinnear is now being linked with the
Leicester job as it looks almost certain that Martin O’Neill
will leave to lead Celtic back to greatness. It is believed that they are now looking at Gillingham’s Peter Taylor. Taylor is one of the most respected young managers in the English game. He led the English u21 team to qualification for the European Championships but then found himself out of a job, which left everybody scratching their heads. Since then he has worked miracles at Gillingham, earning them promotion to Division One for the first time in their history. |
