Cats lose out - January 14, 2001
Kilkenny City 0 St Patrick's Athletic 2
Kilkenny grabbed a draw and a win in their last two outings but it was back to reality with a bang against the Saints. Another Buckley Park defeat and a man sent off to boot.
Kilkenny never really recovered after a splendid 13th minute headed goal by defender Stephen McGuinness from a well-flighted left wing free kick by Martin Russell.
Their best chance came in the 25th minute when they had a justified shout for a penalty turned down by referee Alan Kelly. The incident, involving Saints 'keeper Seamus Kelly and Warren Parkes, left the City player injured and out of the game.
And whatever chance Kilkenny had of forcing their way back evaporated all together after 67 minutes when striker Carlos Rocha was sent off.
The final nail in the Cats' coffin came in the 74th minute, when Liam Kelly took the advantage of poor Kilkenny defending and popped a close-range shot into the back of the net.
