Kilkenny looking to sign Bohs veterans - July 18, 2000 Newly promoted Kilkenny City have made tentative enquiries about the availability of three of Bohemians' senior citizens. Bohs manager Roddy Collins has released Maurice O'Driscoll, Derek Swan and Eoin Mullen and the Cats have emerged as favourites to grab all three. Derek Swan will play his last game for Bohemians in his testimonial against Tranmere Rovers next weekend. He only really figured as a substitute last season at Dalymount Park but when he was used he still showed that he knew the way to goal. Collins has plans of making Bohemians a professional outfit and under this remit there is no place for the club's part-time playing staff and that includes legends such as Swan and O'Driscoll. O'Driscoll joined Bohs from St. Patrick's Athletic in 1992 and has served the Dublin team well in his eight years there. He knew that he wasn't going to figure in Collins' plans this season so he decided it was time to move on. O'Driscoll said: "It was clear that I wasn't going to feature in Roddy's plans for the season and it's no use to me to be sitting in the stand at my age, so we both agreed that it would be best if I moved on." «back to eircom league stories |
