Kilkenny sign 'keeper - October 12, 2000 Newly installed Kilkenny City manager Joe McGrath has again moved to strengthen his squad - this time signing goalkeeper Matt Nelson as competition for Robbie Forde. Nelson previously starred in the American 'A' League with Boston Bulldogs, the team former Irish u21international Stephen Grant played for this season. McGrath took over at Buckley Park a fortnight ago after Pat Byrne unexpectedly resigned and his first move was to engineer a swap deal which saw Ray Kenny going to Finn Harps and Graham O'Hanlon heading south. As Nelson was signing on the dotted line yesterday, another Eircom League goalkeeper was hearing bad news. Cork City netminder Noel Mooney was one of a number of players hit with suspensions yesterday for accumulating disciplinary points. Thomas Dunne (Shamrock Rovers), Gerald Dobbs (Cobh Ramblers), Conor Frawley (Athlone Town) and Dave Whittle (Waterford), as well as Mooney, will all sit out one game. |
