Kiely at home in top league - September 18, 2000 Ireland's Dean Kiely has taken to life in top-flight football with remarkable ease for a player who was only considered a journeyman a couple of seasons ago. The Charlton goalkeeper received high praise for his display against Tottenham on Saturday which led his team to an important 1-0 win - but anyone who has watched Kiely since he joined Charlton would know that he does the same week in, week out. Dean is a shot-stopper of the highest order. He joined Charlton at the beginning of last season from Bury and kept 20 clean sheets as they romped to the Division One title. If any player can keep them in the Premiership it is Kiely, because he oozes class between the sticks. In other news from Charlton, Captain Mark Kinsella is on top of Southampton's wish list as Glenn Hoddle searches for new players - but why anybody would want to join the Dell boys is beyond comprehension and Kinsella will tell Hoddle that in no uncertain terms. The 30-year-old Irish midfielder has no interest in leaving Charlton. He said: "It would take a lot for me to leave the Valley and I am not looking for a move. This club is going places". |
