Durkan commits future to Macclesfield - February 27, 2001

Former Ireland underage international Kieron Durkan bagged his second goal of the season at the weekend - and now says he is happy to stay at Macclesfield for the rest of his career.

The 27-year-old midfielder is out of contract in June, but wants to stay at the Moss Rose after a heart-to-heart with manager Gil Prescott.

"Gil sat me down and said I'd got a future at the club," Durkan revealed. "He said the club was building for next season and I was part of their plans. Obviously that made me feel more secure. I feel happier and I'm happy with my form."

It looked like Chester-born Durkan's days at Macclesfield were numbered when previous manager Peter Davenport loaned him out to York City in October.

"I wasn't in the side when Peter Davenport was manager and York took me for a month's loan with a view to a permanent move," Durkan said.

"They wanted to keep me but the Macc board said 'no'. Then they turned York down again when they asked to take me on-loan until the end of the season.

"At the time I wouldn't have minded staying but really I wanted to be with Macc."
