Prescott praise for Durkan - March 13, 2001

Macclesfield manager Gil Prescott has paid tribute to Irishman Kieron Durkan, his two-goal hero at the weekend.

The former underage international scored two free kicks to inspire the Silkmen to a 3-0 win over Barnet, their most impressive display of the season.

A few weeks ago, 27-year-old Durkan was feeling insecure abut his future at the Moss Rose, until he had a heart-to-heart with Prescott.

And yesterday the manager said: "Kieron's a quality player. He's a very good player and one I want to keep at this club. He was superb.

"I said to him before the game he was due a goal. He agreed - and ended up getting two!"

Durkan has found the net just four times this season - but three of hem have come in the last six games.
