Durkan double: Nationwide round-up - March 12, 2001

Macclesfield's Irish midfielder Kieron Durkan doubled his goal tally for the season yesterday when he struck twice to give the Silkmen a 3-0 win over Barnet in Nationwide division three.

The former underage international opened the scoring after 17 minutes and then bagged his second and Macclesfield's third nine minutes into the second half.

The Chester-born player has scored just four goals this season but yesterday's haul makes it three in six games.

Durkan, out of contract in June, is clearly happier since being told by manager Gil Prescott a fortnight ago that his services will be retained.

Halifax's Dublin-born youngster Alan Reilly scored his first goal of the season a fortnight ago and picked up his first booking of the season last week. On Saturday against Scunthorpe, the 20-year-old doubled both tallies, earning a yellow card on the half hour mark and then scoring the Shaymen's third goal a minute from time. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as Halifax went down 4-3.

York's Barry Conlon - on loan to Colchester for the season - scored the only goal of the game in Colchester's win at Walsall. It was the former u21 international's fifth strike of the season.

And Plymouth's Sean McCarthy scored his eleventh of the season - and the first since his return from a one-month lay-off - in his side's 3-0 home win against Chesterfield. McCarthy also picked up his ninth yellow card of the season to go with the two red cards he has already acumulated!
