Form to cost Murphy his place - November 28, 2000

Tranmere Rovers boss John Aldridge has signed Everton goalkeeper Thomas Myhre on a month's loan. The move will most certainly cost Joe Murphy his place in the starting line-up.

Murphy sat on the bench for most of the season but in the last month or so he has forced his way into pole position ahead of John Achterberg. Achterberg is injured as is Eric Nixon so Aldridge has decided to bring in cover.

Myhre has been out of favour at Everton this season but Aldridge will give him the nod ahead of Murphy in tonight's Worthington Cup game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Aldridge said: "I am pleased to say that we have signed Thomas on a month's loan. I have been looking to bring in some cover since last Thursday, when John Achterberg turned over his ankle in training.

"He won't be right for several weeks and Eric Nixon, our goalkeeping coach, has been hit pretty hard by a virus and hasn't been well enough to provide back-up.

"Joe has lost a little confidence recently, so that's why we've turned to Thomas."
