Murphy gets backing from replacement - December 1, 2000

On-loan goalkeeper Thomas Myhre believes that Tranmere's Joe Murphy will come out of the slump that he is suffering at the moment and will go on to prove just how good he is.

Myhre was brought in on a month's loan from Everton by manager John Aldridge after Joe lost his confidence - but the Norwegian international believes that he will only last the month because Tranmere have two great goalkeepers already in Joe Murphy and John Achterberg.

Myhre said: "Tranmere have a young goalkeeper in Joe (Murphy) who is a tremendous prospect and he had been playing very well but with the team doing a bit poorly he is lacking a bit of confidence at the moment."

Tranmere's goalkeeping coach, Eric Nixon, also believes that Irish u21 international Joe will come out of his current slump.

Nixon said: "Thomas Myhre is a quality keeper and his experience with Everton and at international level can help the others here over the coming weeks, particularly young Joe Murphy who has shown such promise."
