Kinnear appointed as Oxford's ...? - October 19, 2000 Joe Kinnear is back in football after being appointed as a consultant to Division Two bottom team Oxford United, but as yet nobody knows what he will be doing - not even the club's chairman, Firoz Kassam! Kassam said: "I have secured a consultancy agreement with Joe Kinnear. Joe is currently out of the country but will be starting work with us on Monday. "The agreement with Joe is currently a short-term one. He will help me to assess the situation and make recommendations for whatever action he believes to be necessary. We will sit down together at the earliest opportunity to discuss long-term measures. "I know that I don't need to spell out Joe Kinnear's achievements both as a player and as manager of Wimbledon. It is a great coup for Oxford United." Joe has been out of the game since he left Wimbledon after suffering a heart attack and was eager to get back to action in some sort of role. He was approached to take over at Sheffield Wednesday but found the club in too much turmoil to jump onboard. This appointment, no matter what he has to do, will ease him back into the game and he will be ready to put himself back in the shop window to get a post as manager in the near future. |
