West Brom logic is mind-boggling - November 24, 2000
West Brom's £750,000 offer to Stoke City for James O'Connor is their final one - but they still expect to get the player even though Stoke have refused it. Confused?
West Brom's logic beggars belief. They seem to think that, just because their tactic of sticking to their guns until they got what they wanted has worked before, it will work again. They offered £100,00 to Chelsea for Neil Clement and, even though the Premiership club wanted £500,000, West Brom held out and got their man. They repeated the tactic with Spurs for Ruel Fox and Toulouse for Derek McInness and now they expect it to work on Stoke.
But what they are not taking into account is that the other players were on their way down while James O'Connor is definitely on the up.
Stoke know the talent of O'Connor and they also know the player can only get better. Even though he has had a falling-out with manager Gudjon Thordarson this won't rush the Potters into any stupid snap decisions.
O'Connor is a current Irish u21 international and it wont be long before he plays for the senior team. This will up his worth significantly and Stoke know that.
