Murphy back for Tranmere - December 19, 2000

It's an ill wind that blows no good. Saturday's injury to Everton 'keeper Paul Gerrard - which hit the headlines because of Paulo di Canio's sporting gesture in stopping play - will bring Irish goalkeeper Joe Murphy in from the cold at Tranmere!

Gerrard's injury means that Norwegian international Thomas Myhre will be recalled to Goodison Park from loan at neighbouring Tranmere - and that will see teenager Murphy regain his first-team slot.

Murphy broke into the side at the expense of John Achterberg in mid-October and played ten games on the trot - but then suffered what manager John Aldridge described as a "loss of confidence".

Aldridge acted quickly by bringing in Myhre - and Murphy found himself back on the bench for the last four games.
