McAteer to be a Bhoy? - December 19, 2000

Jason McAteer's swashbuckling performance in Saturday's derby against Burnley had Blackburn manager Graham 'Paddy' O'Sounessy drooling - but the Irish international could soon be on his way from Ewood Park.

Souness - a renowned lover of all things Irish who has already dropped Alan Kelly and Jeff Kenna and sent Lee Carsley packing - was yesterday making kissing noises after watching McAteer score one goal and set up another after hitting the post.

The former Rangers manager said: "It's no secret that Jason has been available for transfer this season - but if he continues to play like that I'll be pleading with him to stay. That was his best performance since I came to the club last season. But it's all well and good doing it in a local derby - he has to do it for 30-35 games a season."

Today, however, it emerges that McAteer will probably be doing it somehwere else - possibly Parkhead!

Martin O'Neill wants to take McAteer to Celtic on loan till the end of the season - and Souness, drool or no drool, is unlikely to stand in his way.
