Luton job for Kinnear - February 5, 2001
Just days after resigning as Oxford United's director of football, purportedly on health grounds, Joe Kinnear is back in football.
The former Irish international left the Manor Ground last week, saying: "I have decided to take time out to look after my health and spend more time with my family."
But Kinnear was known to be unhappy at the lack of money for new players at Oxford. Now he has reportedly agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Luton.
"I'd not planned to jump back in so quickly after leaving Oxford but Luton have made me an offer I can't refuse," Kinnear explained. "I've gone from the Crazy Gang to being a Mad Hatter!
"I have always maintained that I wanted to return to management when the Wimbledon fairytale came to an end and I'm raring to go again," he went on. "I was given the all-clear by the doctors a long time ago now and I have never been fitter since I was playing for Tottenham."
