Bolton want Kenna - March 8, 2001

Bolton - knocked out of the FA Cup last night by Blackburn - are preparing a new bid for one of Ewood's want-away Irish stars.

The Trotters' target is international full back Jeff Kenna, who has been frozen out of the Blackburn team since December.

Kenna has been on the transfer list, at his own request, since late last year.

Sam Allardyce is a known Kenna fan and tried to sign the 30-year-old, 27-cap player on loan earlier this season, but Blackburn weren't interested.

However, Blackburn boss Graeme Souness is prepared to listen to firm offers for a permanent deal and Allardyce is reported to be willing to offer £500,000.

If Kenna does go to the Reebok, he will link up with former Republic of Ireland international colleague Gareth Farrelly, who has orchestrated Bolton's promotion charge this year from central midfield.
