Gannon set for Crewe switch - November 8, 2000

Jim Gannon could be out of Edgeley Park by the end of the week after Stockport told him that they did not need his services even though the 32-year-old utility player is in his testimonial year at the club.

While Stockport boss Andy Kilner sees no future for Gannon at Edgeley Park, Crewe boss Dario Gradi believes he still has a lot to offer and is ready to give him a contract which will be reviewed at the end of the year.

Gannon traveled to Gresty Road yesterday to work on the finer details of the deal but it should go through some time this week.

Jim was understandably disappointed with Stockport's decision and the way it was dealt with and in hindsight the Stockport manager agrees.

"It perhaps should have been dealt with in a more adult manner on both sides, but he goes with my best wishes," said Kilner.

Crewe boss Gradi is also lining up a bid to bring another Irish player to Gresty Road. Alan Maybury has just returned to Leeds United after a successful month's loan at the club after Gradi failed in his bid to keep him for another four weeks.

But now he is ready to make David O'Leary an offer for the Irish senior international. The only worry is whether Crewe can afford the highly rated full-back.
