Gavin set for surprise recall - February 22, 2001
Ireland u21 international Jason Gavin, who has not played first-team football since September, is in line for a surprise recall to the Middlesbrough side.
Dubliner Gavin last lined out for 'Boro in a Worthington Cup match against Macclesfield on September 19 and has only twice figured in the squad since then - both times as an unused substitute.
But he was on the bench against Wimbledon in the FA Cup last week - and with three central defenders and a wing back missing for 'Boro's Premiership game against Southampton this Saturday, Gavin is set for a first start under Terry Venables.
Colin Cooper and Keith O'Neill are both serving bans, while Steve Vickers and Gary Pallister are injured.
