Gannon lands County in Court - January 26, 2001

Crewe Alexander's experienced Irish midfielder Jim Gannon goes into FA Cup action against Stockport County tonight hell-bent on gaining revenge for the way his former club wrecked his testimonial year.

Earlier this season, County unilaterally terminated contract negotiations with Gannon and released him just as he was fighting back from injury - and now the 32-year-old is to sue the club for wrongful dismissal.

"I felt I was pushed out of the club for no apparent reason and they have let me down," Gannon said. "I'm taking legal action against them for unfair dismissal - and if they don't issue a public apology, I'm taking it all the way."

In the meantime, the Irishman is hoping to make his point on the pitch tonight. He has been virtually ever present since his move to Crewe in early December and the club have seen a major upturn in their fortunes since his arrival.
