Gamble wants to take next step - November 24, 2000

Ambitious Irish teenager Joe Gamble has set himself the target of winning a regular place in Reading's first team by the end of the season, even though he has just joined from Cork City.

The Irish u18 international has made three substitute appearances so far this season, his latest coming against Grays Athletic in the FA Cup last weekend - and he likes how it feels.

Joe said: "It was fantastic to play in the FA Cup, especially at home. It was the first time I'd played in the competition and it was a brilliant experience to perform in front of the home fans.

"It was a good experience for me and I felt I had a few decent touches on the ball and felt comfortable.

"Now all I can do is try to stay in the squad, work hard and do my best in the reserves and hopefully the gaffer will give me another chance."
