They trailed 2-1 to Bulgaria with four minutes left on the clock but a late surge from the Irish saw them score two more goals to take the game 3-2.

Summer travelling can be fraught with danger and inconvenience: flight delays, thefts and the loss of luggage. The Irish u18 squad is not immune to these problems. They arrived in Dusseldorf yesterday for two friendly games with the Germans and discovered that their gear was not there.

France are European u18 champions - July 24, 2000
The difference between success and failure is slim. France were crowned European u18 champions this morning when they overcame the challenge of the Ukraine 1-0 in the final in Nurnberg in front of a massive 32,000 crowd. But it could so easily have been Ireland, as the French were somewhat fortunate to beat Brian Kerr's team over two legs to reach the finals stage.
