Leeds say Harte is not for sale - January 4, 2001
Rumours linking Republic of Ireland international Ian Harte with a move to either Newcastle United or Chelsea have been shot down by Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale, who says the player is not for sale.
Harte lost his place in the Leeds starting line-up after a run of bad form but the break seems to have done the job. The full-back impressed in a reserve game against Liverpool on Tuesday night and his free kick prowess could help him force his way back into the first team for this weekend's FA Cup clash against Barnsley.
Ridsdale said: "Ian is not for sale. David O'Leary wants him to stay and compete with Dominic Matteo for the left-back spot.
"With the FA Cup and other important games coming up we need Ian to fight for his place and I am sure that is what he'll do."
