'Cheating' Harte is vindicated - February 16, 2001
Republic of Ireland international Ian Harte, accused by Ipswich Town's Marcus Stewart of cheating, has been vindicated by the FA.
Stewart said that Harte had feigned injury to get the striker sent off in the recent English Premiership game between Ipswich and Leeds United - and accused the Irish full back of wrecking his chances of an England call-up.
Leeds manager David O'Leary leapt to the defence of his player, claiming Harte had the stud-marks on his leg to prove that Stewart's late challenge had made contact.
Now the FA, having studied the video evidence, has turned down Stewart's appeal against his sending off, finding that the red card was justified.
The striker is suspended for Ipswich's next three games - against Everton, Bradford and Aston Villa.
