Ian's Harte at Leeds - January 18, 2001

Rumours linking Ian Harte with a move away from Elland Road have been quashed by the Irish international who says he wants to stay and fight for his place back.

Harte lost his place to Dominic Matteo because of a loss of form and he has since had to settle for reserve team action instead of his more accustomed first team place.

Harte said: "There is no point in letting yourself get down about playing in the reserves.

"I'll just have to knuckle down and prove a point to the manager. I want to show him just what I can do - I know that sulking in the reserves is not the answer.

"I intend to win back my place at Leeds and I am going to do that by working as hard as I possibly can. Mark my words, I intend to stay and to fight for my place."

If Harte does not get back into the Leeds first team soon he could also find himself out in the cold with Ireland.

His left-back position will come under serious treat from Steve Staunton who is playing week in, week out for Aston Villa.
