Holland won't face Dutch - August 30, 2000

Matt Holland has been forced to withdraw from the Irish squad for Saturday's game against the Dutch because of an ankle injury that he has failed to shake off.

It is not common for the Ipswich midfielder to miss any sort of game. His appearance for his club at the weekend was his 171st on the trot - that's three seasons of unbroken football!

Manager Mick McCarthy has decided to call up Stoke's Graham Kavanagh and Middlesbrough's Curtis Fleming to his ever-depleting squad.

With Phil Babb and Mark Kennedy sent home and Holland crying off with injury McCarthy felt that he needed some cover in his squad.

With Roy Keane and Mark Kinsella fit, Holland would have not started against the Dutch - but he would have been useful back-up if something went wrong during the 90 minutes.

Revised Squad:
Goalkeepers - Alan Kelly (Blackburn), Shay Given (Newcastle), Dean Kiely (Charlton)
Defenders - Stephen Carr (Tottenham), Gary Kelly and Ian Harte (Leeds), Steve Staunton (Liverpool), Gary Breen (Coventry), Richie Dunne (Everton), Curtis Fleming (Middlesbrough),
Midfielders - Roy Keane (Man Utd), Mark Kinsella (Charlton), Steve Finnan (Fulham), Jason McAteer (Blackburn), Kevin Kilbane (Sunderland), Damien Duff (Blackburn), Graham Kavanagh (Stoke City)
Strikers - Niall Quinn (Sunderland), David Connolly (Feyenoord), Robbie Keane (Inter Milan), Dominic Foley (Watford)
