McHugh celebrates call-up - November 5, 2000

Kevin McHugh celebrated his call-up for the Eircom League u21 squad by firing home a 26th-minute winner to throw relegation-threatened Harps a lifeline against Galway United in Ballybofey.

Galway boss Don O'Riordan will intensify his search for a striker after this showing: O'Riordan is trying to sign former Ireland u21 international Stephen Grant after his plan to pair Llewellyn Riley with his international partner Eric Lavine fell through.

Galway had more than enough chances to win - and top-scorer Lavine was the chief culprit, shooting over the crossbar from inside the six-yard box after 12 minutes and repeatedly exercising Harps 'keeper Gareth Downey.

But Galway's chances of finding an equaliser were reduced considerably just before half time when defender Tom Silke got his marching orders.
