Dykes to stay on at Finn Park - December 7, 2000

Gavin Dykes has withdrawn his threat to quit as Finn Harps manager after a clear-the-air meeting with directors yesterday.

Cash-strapped Harps are struggling near the foot of the Eircom Premier table - and Dykes said he would jack it if the board sold any more players to raise cash.

Yesterday Dykes demanded - and received - assurances that his squad would not be further depleted and that money owed in wages would be paid.

"I ironed out a few problems with the board and I'm far happier now," Dykes said. "All the back money will be in the players pockets by Christmas and I've been assured that there will not be any need to sell or release players.

"We are already down to the bare bones - we had to give Trevor Scanlon his seasonal debut against Longford on Tuesday night - and I'm not going to be responsible for bringing the club into the first division."
