Vultures circle over Harps - January 5, 2001

With the entire Finn Harps first-team squad on the transfer-list at their own request, other Eircom Premier managers are already casting covetous eyes towards Ballybofey.

Bohemians manager Roddy Collins, who recently signed striker Alex Nesovic from Harps, has been the first to throw his hat in the ring, with bids for full back Jonathan Minnock and wide midfielder Paddy McGrenaghan.

"They are both good players and could offer our side a better balance," Collins said.

Meanwhile, former Harps player-manager Gavin Dykes - who prompted the mass transfer request when he quit last week - says he is not ready to hang up his boots just yet.

"I'm going to take this weekend off - my first in fifteen years," Dykes said. "Then, on Monday, I'm going to go out and try to get work as a footballer and finish off the season."

The 33-year-old centre back says he is prepared to travel anywhere in the country - and his experience could be invaluable to a team like, say, Kilkenny City who are battling against relegation.

Although the former Derry and Sligo player is concentrating on finding a playing position, he has not ruled out a return to management in the future.
